LAELA is a research group devoted to the analysis of those factors affecting the acquisition of English as a Foreign Language, which contributes to the teaching improvement and updating of academic staff both at university and secondary levels.

Many public and private funded research projects on the acquisition of pragmatic competence, oral interaction and collaborative discourse in academic contexts have been carried out by LAELA.

Furthermore, LAELA organises regular international and national courses, seminars and conferences in order to analyse the quality of English Teaching and propose improvements for the future.

In 2011 LAELA Research Group was given an award for academic performance.
