Acquisition of formulaic language in an English as a third language context: Analysis of input and pragmatic instruction in distinct educational stages
The project analyses the acquisition of formulaic language taking into account the characteristics of multilingual students in the Valencian Community. The objective is to analyse the comprehension, use and acquisition of formulaic language in different educational stages: (a) infant and primary education, (b) secondary education, and (c) the university context.
An equally important focus of analysis are the factors which influence the comprehension, use and acquisition of formulaic language in each of the educational stages. We focus attention on the following variables: (i) input characteristics and instruction type, (ii) exposure and use of language in out-of-school contexts, (iii) degree of Catalan-Spanish bilingualism, and (iv) knowledge of other languages.
