Pilar Safont has been a member of the LAELA research group since 1999 and currently serves as its director. She has participated in 17 research projects, seven of them as principal investigator. The dissemination of her research is evidenced by over 50 publications. This research trajectory allowed her to form part of the executive committee of the International Association of Multilingualism (IAM) from 2011 to 2022. Moreover, she was president elect of the IAM from 2018 to 2020. She also served as Vicerector for Languages Promotion and Equality at the Universitat Jaume I from 2018 to 2022.
Her research interests involve the development of pragmatic competence by third language (L3) learners of English, the formation of language attitudes as well as factors influencing L3 use and early multilingualism. She currently focuses on translanguaging in classroom discourse and how it can enhance multilingual pragmatic awareness and development.
